Welcome to my blog
This is the first installment of my first blog, I am Lawrence Samuel Shaw, author, historian, comedian. A little about myself: Since early adulthood I have been interested in writing fiction, but it was only in the past dozen or so years, which coincides with my retirement, that it became an obsession. During this period, I have written and re-written four novels, which is how I learned the craft.
That three of my novels are historical is no accident in light of my lifelong interest in history. In college my aim was to become a history professor but with the grim job prospects greeting me in those years, I altered career plans, choosing work in government service. However, I continued my study of history throughout my life. My job allowed me the flexibility to pursue sideline interests that included stand-up comedy, film making and acting and I became a member of the Screen Actors Guild. The purpose of this blog is to talk about historical events and how they have shaped the world we live in and how they will continue to do so. It is also about exploring how we use our interests and knowledge in our writing of fiction. I invite you to follow my blog and comment and share your thoughts and experiences. Some of the questions Iād like to explore with my readers are should we as historians and writers get political or just discuss the events and let the readers come to their own conclusions? How can we use this to open minds to think in a more well-rounded way?
Some of the l events I am planning to delve into are smaller, lesser known events and some will be major. For example: How a movie, and a politicians speech changed the buying habits of a large population of men and the true story of Captain Bligh and who was the true evil.
